Editorial Policy
Editorial Policy
Financial Sumo publishes news, explainers, analysis, guides, reviews, rankings and other editorial content about finance. This policy explains how we maintain editorial independence, verify information, handle corrections and separate editorial work from commercial relationships.
Purpose and scope
This policy applies across the publication, including news articles, category pages, product pages, explainers, guides, reviews, comparisons, rankings, interviews, opinion pieces, sponsored material, press-style announcements and distributed editorial formats such as newsletters and social posts where relevant.
The purpose of the policy is not to promise perfection. It is to make our process legible. Readers should be able to understand how we choose stories, what kinds of sources we use, how we review material, how commercial content is labeled and how errors are addressed once a page is live.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions at Financial Sumo are made independently from advertisers, sponsors, partners and commercial relationships. Advertisers do not determine the conclusions of reviews, rankings, comparisons, analysis pieces or newsroom reporting.
Sponsored content, partner content, advertising and promotional features are labeled clearly so that readers can distinguish them from independent editorial material. Editorial staff and contributors may not promise favorable coverage, placement or conclusions in exchange for payment, access, gifts, sponsorship or any other commercial arrangement.
Sourcing standards
Financial Sumo prioritizes primary and high-value source material. That includes official documents, public records, regulatory filings, product disclosures, pricing pages, government sources, company statements, court materials, research reports and structured datasets. We also use direct expert comments when they add meaningful technical or market context.
Recognized institutions, academic work, industry research and reputable trade or news publications may be used to extend context, confirm a timeline or compare interpretation. Secondary sources are used with care and should not replace primary materials when primary materials are available and relevant.
When source links or citations materially help the reader evaluate a claim, we include them. We do not treat citation as decoration. We treat it as part of editorial clarity.
Anonymous sources
Financial Sumo prefers on-the-record sources. Anonymous sourcing may be used only when the information is important, cannot be obtained otherwise and the source identity is known to the editorial team. Anonymous sourcing is not the norm for product pages, financial guides or standard finance reporting on this site.
Fact-checking and verification
Finance is a high-consequence subject. Writers are expected to check product names, prices, rates, dates, company identities, feature claims, legal or regulatory references, quoted language and data points before submission. Editors then review structure, sourcing, consistency, category fit and any claims that may carry reputational, legal or financial weight.
Sensitive material receives additional review. That includes claims around taxes, investments, debt relief, refinancing, ranking methodology, provider safety, regulatory compliance and any statement that may affect a reader’s financial decision-making. Images, tables, charts and screenshots are also reviewed to ensure they are relevant, correctly described and not misleading.
Verification continues after publication. When major details change or readers identify credible issues, we revisit the page and update it where necessary.
Use of experts
Financial Sumo may use expert commentary for technically difficult or fast-moving topics. Expert input can help explain product mechanics, market structure, policy implications or specialist terminology. Expert participation informs coverage but does not override editorial judgment or determine the final framing of a page.
When experts are quoted directly, their role or credentials should be identified clearly enough for readers to understand why the commentary is relevant.
Use of AI tools
AI-assisted tools may be used to support workflow efficiency, research organization, translation assistance, summarization of public materials, categorization, drafting support or editing support. Human editors remain responsible for editorial judgment, verification, accuracy and publication decisions at all times.
AI tools may not be used to fabricate sources, invent quotes, create false events, assign fake credentials or publish unsupported claims. Any factual statement drafted or assisted by AI must still be checked against reliable sources before publication.
Fairness and impartiality
We aim to separate fact from opinion, provide context for controversial or disputed claims, avoid misleading headlines and represent the position of cited sources accurately. When a subject requires more than one meaningful point of view, we include relevant context rather than flattening the story into a false certainty.
Conflicts of interest
Authors, editors and contributors should disclose relevant financial, commercial or personal conflicts that could affect coverage. Contributors should not cover organizations or products where they hold an undisclosed financial interest. Access, gifts, travel, samples or compensation must not determine editorial conclusions.
Reviews, rankings and comparisons
Financial Sumo publishes reviews, rankings and comparisons across financial products and related services. These pieces are based on disclosed editorial criteria, product characteristics, available documentation, user fit, price and market context. Where a methodology page exists, rankings should align with it.
Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position. If premium profiles, sponsored placements or promotional opportunities are offered within the broader business model, they are labeled and kept separate from editorial scoring or ranking conclusions.
Advertising, sponsorship and affiliate links
Advertising is separate from editorial. Sponsored content is labeled. Commercial or affiliate links, where present, may generate revenue but do not control the findings of reviews, comparisons or rankings. Financial Sumo may reject advertising or sponsorship proposals that are misleading, unsafe, inconsistent with reader trust or incompatible with editorial standards.
Corrections and updates
Verified factual errors are corrected promptly. Significant changes may be noted in the article or page update information. Minor grammar, formatting or readability edits may be made without a formal correction note when they do not alter meaning.
We distinguish between a correction, a clarification and an update. A correction addresses a factual error. A clarification improves wording or context where the original phrasing could mislead. An update reflects new information after publication. Readers can report issues at scholarship@financialsumo.com.

Images, charts and data
Images used on Financial Sumo should be licensed, owned, generated with rights or otherwise usable within the publication. Charts, tables and data-based visual elements should identify the source where source identification is materially relevant to understanding the claim.
Illustrative AI-generated visuals may be used as editorial artwork, but they should not mislead readers into believing they are documentary images of real events.
Reader feedback
Readers can contact the newsroom regarding factual issues, outdated pages, disclosure concerns, source questions or editorial feedback at scholarship@financialsumo.com. Serious correction and transparency messages are reviewed as part of the publication workflow.
