Financial media for everyday Americans
Fact-Checking Policy
Financial mistakes can be expensive. We treat factual checking as a core publishing function, not a last-minute polish layer.
Verification workflow
Every fact-check begins with the load-bearing details: names, dates, dollar figures, rates, deadlines, eligibility rules, quoted language, policy citations, and article update dates. Those details are compared against original source materials first. Where direct originals are unavailable, we look for multiple credible records that independently preserve the same fact.
Multi-source confirmation
We confirm material claims through more than one source when the stakes are practical, legal, or financial. A finance claim should ideally survive comparison across at least two of the following: a primary source document, an official public webpage, a provider disclosure, a regulatory page, a filing instruction, or a reliable secondary source quoting the original record accurately.
How we handle archives and deleted pages
Archived and removed pages are checked against external references, older directories, screenshots, link context, and later statements. We record what the archived page showed, what date the snapshot preserves, and whether the claim is reinforced elsewhere. When an archive page is incomplete, we state the limitation in the article.
Social posts, screenshots, and public claims
We verify account ownership, post dates, platform URLs, quoted wording, and whether a screenshot matches a live or archived source. Screenshots alone are not enough for publication when the same claim can be checked directly. We prefer live URLs, archived URLs, issuer pages, and official statements.
Update labels and reader feedback
When we materially update an article, we mark the update in the article. When a reader flags a factual issue, we review the cited passage, retrace the source chain, and correct the article where the evidence requires it.
